Citizenship by Investment

Why you need an alternative Citizenship

Due to a variety of drivers – such as increasing regulation, changing business expectations, IPO tax requirements, risk management and personal security protection – alternative citizenship is rapidly becoming a responsible option.

A second passport and dual citizenship have a number of non-tax benefits. It can, for example, expand travel possibilities, reduce one’s profile to terrorists, give the right to reside in other countries, and provide an alternative to entry at international borders if a primary passport is lost or stolen.

For Americans, in particular, a second passport has another all important benefit – it is a key prerequisite to expatriation, relinquishing U.S. citizenship in order to achieve permanent relief from U.S. tax authorities.

The most valuable passports are from countries that do not impose tax on their non-resident citizens’ worldwide income or impose exit taxes on long-term residents and on whose passport visa-free travel is available to many countries.

A prescribed period of permanent residence in most countries will also qualify eligible persons in procuring citizenship. Examples include – Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States all of which offer residence rights in consideration for a prescribed investment contribution.

Tax Exiles

An estimated 250,000 Americans move out of the U.S. every year — and most are not true tax exiles.

increasing concern exhibited by U.S. government authorities about tax exiles in recent years — concerns that have been made more acute by IRS revelations about the use of “abusive” tax shelters and by the pressing budget deficit.

Critics of the current and proposed tax laws relating to expatriates point out that the U.S. is the only country in the world that seeks to tax its citizens on a worldwide basis, irrespective of whether they spend time in the country or whether they have assets there.
